Practice Building Tip

In the complex world of personal training, you must ask yourself a simple question: Where do you want to go as a Personal Trainer?

Some people are quite content working in a gym or a personal training center owned by someone else. However, if you have subscribed to this ezine chances are you want to be in business for yourself.

How do you get started? Well, first you must without question, Believe In Yourself. You need to develop a Vision about how your Personal Training business will run.

The next step in making this happen is to develop a business plan. It’s easy to want to skip this because it can be a lot of work, but it so critical!

The old adage is true: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

I have consulted many Personal Trainers who have all the great intentions of developing a business, but do not have the plans and goals on paper. They haven’t written the steps they are going to take to reach those business goals or what marketing they want to use to grow their business.

You must have your business intentions in writing or all your plans may fall apart.

We are in the business to help people improve their lives.

Without a proper foundation for our own business, we cannot serve our clients at our best.

Now, once you have the plan in place you can begin to move towards the development of a facility or your in-home business.

At Help Your Practice, we recommend you start with a basic book on creating your own business plan, which you can find at any major bookstore or library. Or if you prefer, you may use a prepared software program that will take you step by step through the process of building a plan. The most polished, but expensive route, is to consult with an attorney who specializes in developing business plans.

No matter what route you take, Help Your Practice highly recommends the creation of a plan before you step off the diving board and plunge into the deep end of owning your own business.

Monthly Marketing Tip

Here’s a little advertising tip that many massage therapists and personal trainers are not aware of: You can get a free Yellow Pages listing. If you have a business telephone line, you automatically are given a free Yellow Pages listing in the phone directory(s) where your business line is located.

A business phone line is a bit more expensive than a residential line, but you can easily control that cost by using that business line to receive incoming calls only.

For an additional $5-10 per month, you can set up your business line with voice mail, which you can access from anywhere, and it works 24/7 rain or shine.

While you will get better results from a paid ad in the Yellow Pages than your basic listing, it will produce qualified prospects calling to inquire about your professional services.

Here’s the beautiful thing about your free listing: it won’t matter how many calls it produces each week, each month, or each year…It’s FREE!

That’s all for now…

On behalf of Mike, we’ll look forward to talking with you next month.
